Great downloadable titles for the budget gamer
Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown
Platforms: Playstation 3, Xbox 360
Release Date: June 5, 2012
Rated T for Teen
VF5: Final Showdown is 3D fighter with nice graphics, tight gameplay, a top notch training mode, and exceptional netcode (I have played on a DSL line versus someone in Japan with only slight lag). At 15 bucks, it is impossible to get more bang for your buck in the fighting game genre. Definitely give this game a shot if you have an iota of interest.
Jamestown: Legend of the Lost Colony
Platforms: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux
Release Date: June 8, 2011
If you enjoy vertical scrolling shooting games with aliens, epic music, and lots of unlockables then Jamestown is the game for you. Jamestown features offline four player co-op that allows players to use a keyboard, mouse, or multiple joypads for simultaneous gameplay. There are five difficulties in the game that range from “pretty simple” to “hand me another beer” on scales of frustration. Anyway, less reading, more playing.
The Walking Dead: The Game
Platforms: Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, iOS
Release Date: April 24, 2012 (five games released in one month intervals from this date)
Rated M for Mature
Price: $5 per episode or $25 for all five episodes
The Walking Dead: The Game can best be described as a point and click game with an immersive story where all your choices will affect how the plot unfolds. If you lie to characters, they will remember and it can have devastating consequences down the road. This game does not require previous knowledge of the TV series or comic books. With one exception, all characters you meet during the game are new to the franchise. The best part is that you can always replay the game and choose different actions to see how things would’ve turned out. Besides, there’s no reason not to try a $5 game.
